Nurturing the next generation of talents is critical to increasing Hong Kong’s momentum and maintaining our success in innovation and technology. To this end, The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (ASHK), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) and the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS), is launching the fifth “Distinguished Master, Accomplished Students” Mentorship Programme in 2023, on the basis of its prior success in the last four cohorts. The fifth round of the Programme will officially start on 1st April 2023 until 31st March 2024.
Emerging technologies such as quantum engineering, genome editing, AI and renewable energy are set to have profound impacts on our daily lives, our planet, and our way of understanding nature and even ourselves. To inform high school students and teachers about the latest technologies and to prepare our next generations for the opportunities and challenges ahead of us, YASHK, The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) with the support from Education Bureau (EDB), and Hong Kong Science Museum are co-organising the “Talk Series on Emerging Technologies — Science, Opportunities and Challenges 2021" as an event of HK SciFest.
Recently, advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) allow machines to understand human languages, compete in strategic games at the highest level, drive cars autonomously etc. These new developments will have a huge impact on our way of living and open up new commercial opportunities. In this workshop, our speakers will introduce the latest developments in AI assisted human-machine interactions, image processing and how to establish a computational platform to assist the AI development in Hong Kong. We will also shed light on how students are being trained in related areas at universities.
