Nurturing the next generation of talents is critical to increasing Hong Kong’s momentum and maintaining our success in innovation and technology. To this end, the “Distinguished Master, Accomplished Students” Mentorship Programme was launched by ASHK, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) and the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) in 2017. On the basis of the first year’s success, YASHK and Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) are engaged to co-organise the Programme. The second round of the Programme will start in the second quarter of 2019.
YHSA(Asia) is a research-based competition initiated by Prof. Shing-Tung YAU. It emphases on innovation, originality, creativity and persistence in research activities. It encourages students and teachers to formulate issues with quantitative precision and scientific rationales, with a view to nurturing students’ passion for scientific discovery, patience in investigation, and rigour in deliberation.
Emerging technologies such as quantum engineering, genome editing, AI and renewable energy are set to have profound impacts on our daily lives, our planet, and our way of understanding nature and even ourselves. To inform high school students and teachers about the latest technologies and to prepare our next generations for the opportunities and challenges ahead of us, YASHK and The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) with the support from Education Bureau (EDB) co-organised the “Talk Series on Emerging Technologies — Science, Opportunities and Challenges".
The search for high capacity, environmentally friendly and cost-effective ways for energy storage is essential for the development of renewable energy, mobile electronic devices and transportation. In this workshop, YASHK scientists and HKYIC industrialists will meet to discuss the latest developments in energy storage to foster applications of these new technologies and generate new ideas for innovation. The topics covered include recent advancements in fuel cells, flexible textile batteries and safe and low-cost aqueous energy storage technologies.
