"Distinguished Master Accomplished students" Mentorship Programme
Introduction
Nurturing the next generation of talents is critical to increasing Hong Kong’s momentum and maintaining our success in innovation and technology. To this end, the “Distinguished Master Accomplished Students” Mentorship Programme was launched by ASHK, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) and the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) in 2017. On the basis of the first year’s success, YASHK and Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) are engaged to co-organise the Programme with ASHK, HKAES and HKIS. The second round of the Programme will start in the second quarter of 2019.
Under the programme, successful scientists and engineers in Hong Kong serve as mentors pro bono to provide advice and other support to help local senior secondary students interested in science and technology for two years to realise their potential.
Second Round (2019 Cohort)
Announcement at InnoTech Expo 2018
Announcement of the second round of the Programme was made to secondary school principals at the InnoTech Expo held by OHKF in September 2018. Prof. Lap-Chee TSUI, Prof. Ngai-Ming MOK and mentees from the first round were invited to share their experience on the occasions.
For the 2019 cohort, each local secondary school was invited to nominate one Secondary 4 student to join the programme. The mentees and mentors are matched based on their interests, preferences and expectations.
Matching of Mentees with Mentors
With the help of the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council, the Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council and the Association of Principals of Government Secondary Schools, 136 students have been admitted and matched with 51 mentors from ASHK, HKAES, HKIS and YASHK volunteering to participate in the Programme.
Kickoff Ceremony for 2019 Cohort
The Kickoff Ceremony cum Orientation for the 2019 cohort of the Programme was held at InnoCentre at 2:00pm on 31 March 2019. Mentors and mentees met with each other for the first time. The Chief Executive of HKSAR officiated at the Ceremony and interacted with the mentees. There was also sharing by mentors from the first round (2018 cohort).
